Large format interlocking concrete pavement aka pavers (or slabs) continues to be the trend in the landscapes. The days of using “twinkies”, a 3″x6″ size paver in Oak’s old Romanesque line or many of the other manufacturers discontinued products are long gone. To the lay person there is no difference between a concrete paver and a slab. But the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) defines a segmental concrete paving slab as “a pavement with units each having a surface area over 100 in.2 (0.065 m2). Generally they are no larger than 48 in. x 48 in. (1.2 m x 1.2 m) with a minimum thickness of 1.18 in.(30 mm). The overall slab length to thickness is greater than 4.”
